Adventure. Leadership. Memories That Last a Lifetime.
At Scouting America Longhorn Council Troop 379, we believe Scouting is at its best when it is “Youth Leading Youth.” Scouts are given opportunities to make decisions, solve problems, lead their peers, learn from their experiences, and grow into confident young leaders.
Lord Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Scouting movement, described Scouting as “a game with a purpose.” The game is adventure—camping under starlit skies, hiking new trails, gathering around a campfire, learning new skills, serving the community, and having fun with friends. The purpose is the growth that happens along the way.
Through those experiences, Scouts develop character, citizenship, leadership, personal fitness, and practical life skills. They learn when to lead and when to follow, how to work as part of a team, how to overcome challenges, and how to take responsibility for themselves and others.
The campfires eventually fade and the tents get packed away, but the experiences remain. Our hope is that every Scout who spends their teenage years with Troop 379 leaves with lifelong memories, lasting friendships, and the confidence and skills to become a responsible, respectful, self-reliant adult who is prepared to lead and serve others.
The adventure is theirs. The leadership is theirs. The future is theirs.
